Become a Trauma-informed Breathwork Facilitator

“Where I started in this journey was wanting to bring breathwork to my therapy clients. I had no idea the level of healing that would happen for me personally. I have become a better therapist and have seen amazing growth in my clients. I am so grateful for Megan sharing her passion, knowledge, and skills of breathwork!”
— Ida-Marie, therapist & Unity Breathwork Graduate
Processing trauma is a common occurrence in conscious connected breathwork (CCB), and the practice can be an incredibly powerful tool for supporting recovery. However, working with trauma requires care, skill, and a deep understanding of the nervous system and how to effectively support survivors. Without proper training, facilitators risk leaving participants feeling worse or even retraumatized.
Our breathwork facilitator training takes trauma seriously!
You’ll dive deeply into developmental, intergenerational, acute, and chronic trauma, including complex PTSD, collective trauma, and perinatal matrices. You’ll also study Parts Work (IFS), trauma and memory, the nervous system and polyvagal theory. Throughout the training, you’ll cultivate trauma-responsive skills that enable you to facilitate breathwork safely, effectively, and with attuned support for every participant.
Advanced Skills You Won’t Find in Other Breathwork Training School’s
While our core breathwork facilitator training curriculum is already more robust than most others, we are deeply committed to giving our students all the tools they need to truly thrive. That’s why we’ve infused the following advanced skills into our program—consider them the icing on the cake. These skills will allow you to guide participants into their deepest possible journeys and set you apart from other facilitators.

- Tension and Trauma-Release Exercises (TRE)
- Advanced supportive touch techniques
- Reiki certification (optional) – learn how to support your own energy and that of your breathers
- Music and sound therapy, including how to use simple instruments to deepen the experience
- Running life-changing breathwork workshops and retreats
- Language and hypnotic suggestion techniques for breathwork
- Supporting breathers with intense tetany, anxiety, and panic disorder
- Tips and tricks for advanced breathwork facilitation
- Intro as well as advanced trauma modules
- Vocals training for facilitators: Your voice is your most powerful tool as a breathwork facilitator. During our in-person breathwork training, you’ll practice projection, tone, and resonance to deepen your offerings.
Our hybrid breathwork facilitator training is proudly certified by the Global Professional Breathwork Alliance (GPBA)—the gold standard for breathwork training accreditation worldwide.

Megan personally guides the program and is supported by a team of expert contributors and mentors who provide additional insight and support throughout the training.
Unity Founder & Course Leader: Megan Ashton

Megan, the founder, brings deep passion and extensive real world experience to the program. She has been facilitating breathwork for over eight years and working in the wellness field for more than two decades.
Before launching Unity, she also spent years working alongside eight other international breathwork training schools. This unique background has given her an in depth understanding of many different breathwork methodologies, which she thoughtfully weaves into the training to create a rich and unparalleled learning experience.
Megan loves nothing more than sharing her hands-on, practical, and research-based leanings with others. When you graduate, you will have a depth of knowledge, confidence, and know-how that far surpasses most other facilitators around the world as well!
Unlike many international schools, Unity intentionally caps class sizes so each student receives meaningful guidance, personal mentorship, and individualized support throughout.
The Unity Training Includes a Team of Experts in their Field

At the heart of Unity is the belief that there is no guru — that the richest learning happens through collaboration and the sharing of diverse wisdom. For this reason, the training brings together a carefully chosen group of contributors who are leaders in their respective fields.
Ida-Marie, a licensed therapist with over 20 years of clinical experience, leads much of the mental health and trauma-informed segments of the training(find out more about her here).
Beyond that, students learn from experienced bodyworkers, somatic practitioners, a gifted sound medicine practitioner, successful wellness entrepreneurs, and business and marketing experts — each bringing their own hard-won knowledge and genuine passion to the program.
Unity Breathwork is proudly accredited by the GPBA. Upon graduation, students receive a 450 hour certification, providing internationally recognized credentials and the confidence to safely facilitate transformative breathwork sessions.

1. Program Dates & Schedule
When Does the Breathwork Training Start/What Are the Dates for the Online and In-person Segments?
Our training consists of two main units: the Home Exploration Unit and the Seminars Unit.
The Home Exploration Unit can be started at any time and typically takes 10–12 months to complete. By enrolling early, you’ll gain a valuable head start—allowing you to graduate sooner and easing your overall workload once the live seminars begin. We highly recommend registering before the next Seminars Unit launches so you can move through the material at your own pace, build a strong foundation, and feel spacious and well-prepared when live classes start.
Our next Seminars Unit is scheduled to launch this May. Classes will take place biweekly. The in-person will take place towards the end of April, 2027.
We cap each group to ensure everyone receives deep personalized attention and support. If you are dedicated to learning everything you can to hold a safe and powerful breathwork space, you may be the perfect fit. The first step in the application process is to book a discovery call.
How Many Hours is the Training?/Will this Training Fit into a Busy Lifestyle?
Our Breathwork Facilitator Training Certification is one of the most comprehensive in the industry, offering a robust 450-hour curriculum, spaced out over 12 months to ensure plenty of time for the absorption and integration of your learnings. You will graduate as a confident leader in the field, fully equipped to navigate the intense experiences that can arise in breathwork with grace, confidence, and expertise.

2. Tuition & Financial Options
What is the Tuition?
We’ve intentionally kept our tuition lower than other GPBA-certified breathwork facilitator training programs to ensure it remains accessible to all. The cost for our 450-hour trauma-informed training is $5,900 USD. See the section below for our breathwork training payment plans and financial options.
Please note that tuition covers all training hours, including the in-person segment, but does not include on-site accommodation and meals for the 8-day intensive. We make every effort to keep on-site costs as accessible and reasonable as possible.
Does Your Breathwork Facilitator Training Program Offer Payment Plans or Financial Options?
In addition to keeping our tuition lower than most other GPBA schools of this length at $5,900, we also offer payment plans and financial options to ensure accessibility for all:
- If you prefer to pay upfront, you’ll receive a 10% discount, bringing the total to $5,310 USD.
- We offer 20% bursaries for individuals in lower income brackets.
- We offer special conversion rates for Canadians who are genuinely in need of support, demonstrate the qualities to excel as a facilitator, and request it due to the weaker Canadian dollar.
- We provide flexible, interest-free monthly payment plans that allow you to spread payments over 10–24 months for easier budgeting. This can make your monthly payment as low as $197 USD/month.
3. Location & Format
Where Does the In-Person Breathwork Training Segment Take Place?
Our 8-day in-person breathwork training takes place in the stunning, charming, and safe coastal town – Sayulita, Mexico. It is conveniently located near the Puerto Vallarta (PVR) international airport and provides the ideal environment for deep personal growth and transformation during our immersive training intensives.

Our training includes self-study modules and breathwork practicums that you can complete on your own schedule over the course of 12 months.
It also features 24 seminar modules, which you review prior to our biweekly 2-hour Zoom calls. During these calls, we dive deeper into the seminar topics, conduct breakout room activities to enhance learning, hold mentor check-ins, and provide opportunities to ask questions and discuss your experiences. This unit includes:
- 22 live biweekly interactive Zoom sessions (2 hours each) over a 10-month period

4. Breathwork Facilitator Training Certification & Accreditation
Is this a Trauma-informed Breathwork Facilitator Training Certification with a Focus on Trauma-Sensitive Methods?
Yes—at Unity, trauma-informed care is not a checkbox or a module we add on at the end. It is woven into the foundation of everything we teach. We offer one of the most in-depth trauma curriculums available in any breathwork training, because we believe that facilitators who work with conscious connected breathing must be more than trauma-aware—they must be trauma-responsive.
Conscious connected breathing works directly with the nervous system, the subconscious mind, and the body’s stored emotional material. This means participants can enter a state of genuine vulnerability during a session, and what a facilitator says, does, or fails to notice in those moments matters deeply. Holding that space safely and skillfully is not something that can be learned in a weekend. It requires real depth of understanding—and that is exactly what our training is designed to provide.
Our trauma-sensitive methods and modules are taught by a professional therapist with over 20 years of experience. They cover topics such as developmental trauma, birthing trauma, ACES, intergenerational trauma, the five main types of trauma, and applied trauma techniques for breathworkers.
Who is behind the Unity Breathwork Training and what credentials and experience do they have?
The Unity Breathwork Training is led by founder Megan Ashton, who has been facilitating breathwork for nearly nine years and working in the wellness field for over 20 years. Megan holds certifications in clinical hypnotherapy, yoga, reiki, and holistic nutrition, and has worked alongside eight international breathwork schools.
She is joined by Ida-Marie, a licensed mental health and addictions therapist with over 20 years of clinical experience, who leads much of the trauma-informed and mental health segments of the training.
The wider faculty includes experienced bodyworkers, somatic practitioners, sound medicine practitioners, functional breathing specialists, and succesfull entrepreneurs — every one of them a graduate of Megan’s. To can meet the full faculty and explore their credentials in detail –> Click here.
Is the Training Certified by the GPBA?
Yes, our breathwork facilitator training is certified by the Global Professional Breathwork Alliance, which upholds the highest standards for training programs. Even if you choose not to train with us, we recommend selecting a school with this certification to ensure you receive a comprehensive and high-quality training.
Please note that we are a GPBA certified school, and upon graduation you will be eligible to be listed as an ethically compliant breathworker on the GPBA website. However, GPBA regulations require a minimum of two years of training to qualify for GPBA practitioner status. This is not unique to our school. All GPBA certified programs that are under two years lead to ethically compliant breathworker status rather than practitioner status.
To meet this requirement, we offer a second year pathway, which is a simple 20 hour adjunct priced at just 400 USD. We also offer a free mentorship pathway for you to obtain your second year status if you want to listed as a practitioner, as opposed to breathworker.
What is the GPBA and Why Should I Choose a Breathwork Training School that is Accredited By It?
The GPBA stands for the Global Professional Breathwork Alliance, an international organization that sets ethical and professional standards for breathwork facilitators and schools.
Why choose a GPBA-accredited school:
- Safety and Ethics: GPBA accreditation ensures the school follows strict safety protocols and ethical guidelines for working with clients.
- Quality Training: Accredited programs meet high standards for curriculum, instructor experience, and hands-on practice.
- Professional Recognition: Completing a GPBA-accredited program adds credibility to your certification, making it recognized globally.
- Support and Community: Accredited schools are connected to a wider network of facilitators and resources for ongoing professional development.
- Future-Proofing Your Practice: Breathwork has grown in popularity quickly, and regulations are not yet fully in place. However, the field is moving in that direction. Training with a non-GPBA school may mean you aren’t eligible for certification or insurance recognition in the future.
Choosing a GPBA-accredited program helps ensure your training is safe, recognized, and positioned for long-term professional credibility.
What Accreditation’s Does this Breathwork Training Have?
We take safety and credibility seriously. Our breathwork facilitator training is proudly GPBA certified, meaning it meets the highest standards for ethics, safety, scope of practice, and professional education.
Is Unity Breathwork Training Certified By the International Breathwork Foundation (IBF)?
Yes Unity Breathwork is a member of the International Breathwork Foundation (IBF), a global nonprofit that supports and connects breathwork practitioners, provides resources and training, and promotes personal and collective transformation through conscious breathing.
There is some confusion though, as many people believe the IBF accredits training schools. In fact, anyone can become a member of the IBF by paying the annual membership fee, but membership does not guarantee that a practitioner’s training is comprehensive.
The only governing body that ensures training programs are thorough and safe is the Global Professional Breathwork Alliance (GPBA). When choosing a training school, we strongly recommend selecting one from the GPBA’s list of certified schools.
Which Companies Offer Accredited Breathwork Facilitator Training Courses?
Unity Breathwork offers an accredited Breathwork Facilitator Training Course that is internationally certified by the GPBA. However, we’re not the only school, there are currently over 100 GPBA-accredited schools, and you can you can find a full list here: https://breathworkalliance.com/member-directory/.
Tip: Select ‘certified school’ in the search box on their page to narrow it down to accredited training courses only.
5. Career & Next Steps
What’s the Difference Between a Breathwork Facilitator Training and a Breathwork Practitioner Training?
Currently, there is no global regulatory body overseeing connected breathwork and its various offshoots. As a result, the terminology is not standardized, leading to different terms often referring to the same concepts. For instance, while some breathwork schools designate their graduates as “breathwork facilitators,” others use the term “breathwork practitioners,” both referring to the same role.
Additionally, some schools implement a tiered training structure, where first-level students are called “breathwork facilitators,” and those who pursue further training are referred to as “breathwork practitioners,” suggesting that practitioners have more experience. Since we are a dually accredited training you will receive both a breathwork facilitator certificate, as well as an advanved skills breathwork practitioner certificate.
How Much is a Typical Breathwork Facilitator Salary?
We’ve seen facilitators successfully run group sessions with 20, 30, or even 40 participants. At just $50 per person for a 90-minute workshop, potential earnings can exceed $1,000 for a single class. While building to that point requires time and dedication, it is an achievable goal. One of our graduates has even led online breathwork sessions for thousands of participants. While we don’t track individual earnings—since financial gain is not our primary motivation—we are proud of her and all our students who are bringing this work into the world.
Our 450-hour training program is highly comprehensive, with no need for an ‘upgrade’ to use the term “breathwork practitioner.” Although we typically use “breathwork facilitator,” as it is the more traditional term, you are welcome to identify as a “breathwork practitioner” if you prefer after training with us.While becoming a millionaire as a breathwork facilitator might not be the norm, the potential to build a fulfilling and sustainable career in this field is absolutely within reach.
Connected breathwork is touted as the fastest and most effective pathway for healing and personal upliftment. If you are dedicated to sharing this work with others, the financial rewards will follow. And there has never been a better time to become a certified breathwork facilitator. By starting now, you position yourself ahead of the curve, giving yourself the opportunity to establish a name before connected breathwork gains broader recognition and competition increases.
Does this Breathwork Facilitator Training Program Include Business Building Resources?
Becoming a breathwork facilitator means stepping into entrepreneurship—and we take that seriously. Our training includes dedicated business-building resources and modules designed to give you a genuine head start, not just a credential.
The founder of this training has built breathwork programs across eight international locations—from small towns and family communities to major cities and corporate environments. Through years of real-world experience, trial, and refinement, she has learned what works and what doesn’t—and she shares all of it with you so you don’t have to figure it out from scratch. Unity has also brought in other successful facilitators and entrepreneurs to round out the business and marketing curriculum with a range of perspectives and proven approaches.
You will learn how to market yourself and build your brand, manage email lists, create waivers, obtain insurance, and get listed on platforms like Google Maps and Airbnb Experiences. By the time you graduate, you will have not only the skills and depth to be an inspiring facilitator, but the practical tools and confidence to bring your offerings into the world and build a breathwork practice that is sustainable, visible, and uniquely yours.
Who this Training is For & Who is Not a Good Candidate?
Who This Training Is For
If you value integrity, compassion, and excellence, and you are committed to becoming a highly skilled, trauma-informed breathwork facilitator, this training is designed for you. We welcome all levels of practitioners—from complete beginners to experienced facilitators who feel their previous training did not fully equip them to hold safe, trauma-informed space.
No matter where you begin, we will meet you there. Through our comprehensive breathwork facilitator training, you will gain the knowledge, confidence, and embodied experience to guide transformative sessions with care and sensitivity. By fully engaging with the curriculum, you will graduate as a leader in the field—offering sessions that stand out for their depth, safety, and impact. This training sets you up to create a sustainable and deeply nourishing career as a certified breathwork facilitator
Who This Training Might Not Be the Right Fit For
If you are looking for a quick certification or a shortcut, this is not the right training for you—and we say that with genuine care, not judgment.
Conscious connected breathwork is a powerful therapeutic practice, and with that power comes real responsibility. To hold space for the profound emotional releases, altered states, and vulnerable moments that arise in a session, you need thorough professional training and a willingness to do your own deep inner work alongside it. This is not a curriculum you move through from the outside. It asks you to go in.
If you believe your own healing journey is complete and there is nothing left to discover, this training is also likely not the right fit. At Unity, we don’t believe in gurus—we believe that as long as we are alive, there are more layers to uncover, more to integrate, and more to learn. That spirit of ongoing inner inquiry is woven into every part of the curriculum, and it is part of what makes our graduates exceptional facilitators.
This path requires time, dedication, emotional maturity, and a genuine commitment to embodying trauma-informed principles—not just understanding them intellectually. It requires self-awareness, a willingness to be challenged, and the humility to keep growing.
If you are not quite ready for that level of commitment right now, we encourage you to honor that and wait until the timing feels right. When you do arrive, we will be here.
Does this Breathwork Practitioner Training Include Ongoing Support After Certification?/Is there Lifetime Access to Training Materials?
Our breathwork facilitator training offers lifetime access to training materials and ongoing support even after graduation. We have an incredibly supportive global community all connected through Slack, that you can turn to for questions or inspiration. We also have regular community events and support calls.
What truly sets us apart though is that we offer a second-year teacher training program that equips you with the skills to take on apprentices and teach them to become breathwork facilitators.
This not only serves as a deeply fulfilling vocation that will strengthen your own skills as a facilitator butcan also be a significant additional income stream. We are proud to offer a platform that empowers all our trainees to step up and shine, and we believe our approach is unmatched in the breathwork facilitator training landscape.

Amy: The best breathwork facilitor training out there – it so comprehensive and in-depth and the wisdom and confidence you receive from it, is unreal! It’s such a supportive community, and the founder of the school is so down to earth and passionate as well…

My teacher for this program was Megan and she is incredible! She is so passionate and so full of wisdom. And I feel so blessed and lucky that I got to be a part of her group and a part of this program.
I have done many other programs in the holistic realm and there is not a single program that has made me feel like I can actually step out and do it with confidence…until now. I’m so excited to get out there. It’s a beautiful journey not only for everything you will learn as a facilitator but also for your own personal growth. It’s truly incredible. If you’re wondering if it’s the right time, honor your nudge and go for it!!
Mitchell: “This trauma informed breathwork training has opened my eyes to what’s possible, not only within myself but the innate desire for change and goodness within every human being…

I am a completely new person compared to who I was when I signed up, and man its hard work, but its such a beautiful thing to have the opportunity to grow alongside everyone else on this journey. Making mistakes, learning from them, and rediscovering what it means to be human. Thank you Megan!”
Ida-Marie: Where I started in this journey was having the desire to bring breathwork to my therapy clients—I’m a mental health and addictions therapist—because I had felt the healing power of breathwork in myself.

I have been learning over the years that talk therapy is not enough for trauma healing and I had started a few newer modalities but really believed that breathwork has the greatest potential for longer term healing.
My prayer has basically come true. I do not feel like the same person who started this course. My level of trust… in the process and in myself, the grace and compassion I can now give myself and others, and a stronger connection to Spirit within.
Being able to be vulnerable and share my true thoughts and feelings without shaming and doubting myself later. I knew there would be some inner exploration in the course but had no idea of the level of healing that would happen for me personally in practicing breathwork.
I would recommend this course to all therapists interested in incorporating breathwork into your practice, especially if you work with clients with trauma, PTSD, or addictions. I have become a better therapist in this process, and when practicing breathwork sessions with clients I have seen amazing growth and hope for their futures.
I have grown both personally and professionally, and I will always be grateful for Megan sharing her passion, knowledge, and skills of breathwork!
Sarah: I HIGHLY recommend signing up for the Unity Breathwork Facilitator Training! I joined the program on a whim after experiencing a breathwork session with Megan in Sayulita in 2024, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made….

I graduated in January and am now working as a Breathwork facilitator in San Francisco.
What stood out to me most was how well the course is run and organized. Megan puts her heart and soul into every aspect of the training, which creates an immersive and supportive environment. You genuinely feel and see her passion for the work, and that has a huge positive impact on the learning experience.
The training was extremely practical and well-structured. Each module built upon the last, ensuring that we not only learned the theory and science behind breathwork but also had lots of opportunity to practice techniques ourselves.
Megan provides clear guidance, making the learning process smooth and comprehensive and the training wraps up with an 8 day in person training container, in Mexico. This is invaluable and was truly one of the best 8 days of my life. So special that I went back as a guest this past January with the current cohort, who are training.
I felt very prepared and confident to offer breathwork professionally after completing the course. The curriculum emphasizes practical experience, and the community support encouraged us to step into our new roles with confidence. I truly feel like I have the tools I need to make a difference in others’ lives.
Megan and Ben have dedicated their lives to this work, and it truly shows; they are so passionate, knowledgeable, and committed to continuous learning and teaching.
Overall, my experience with Unity Breathwork was transformative, both personally and professionally, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone interested in this path!
Kikky: Megan is a true gem! Her breathwork sessions, retreats and facilitator training is on another level…

The breathwork facilitator training was incredibly comprehensive and a life-changing training! I went from a complete beginner in connected breathwork to opening my own breathwork and meditation center in Dallas. Along the way, I explored deeply with strangers who quickly became dear friends. I can’t recommend it enough!
Amanda: This training gave me the confidence to step into my power as a breathwork facilitator. The community and support are unmatched.…the training has been life-changing…
It’s not only allowed me to confidently hold space for others, with their breath, their emotions, and feelings but it’s also allowed me to delve into my own breath and learn about myself. Its also distinctive because it offers a second-year teacher training program that equips you with the skills to take on apprentices and teach them to become breathwork facilitators!”
